What is three threads in cotton yarn?

What is the meaning of three threads in cotton yarn?

Cotton “three silk” refers to non-cotton fibers and colored fibers mixed into raw cotton that have a serious impact on the quality of cotton and its products, such as chemical fiber, hemp silk, plastic film, plastic wire, rope, cloth, paper, human, dog, mouse, chicken, duck and other animal hair and down. Why does cotton yarn have three threads? At present, in the process of cotton yarn sales and use, the problem of three silk has become a headache for everyone. 90% of the three filaments in the cotton yarn are determined by cotton, and what determines the three filaments in cotton is determined by the cotton-picking method. Machine-picked cotton can wrap three filaments, while hand-picked cotton has more than three filaments in cotton due to the pockets, hair, and some man-made impurities.

The harm of three filaments

01
“Three silk” leads to defective yarn and cloth, which greatly reduces the quality of cotton yarn and cotton cloth
After the “three silk” is mixed with raw cotton, it changes from long and large to short and small particles in the ginning process, and these particles become finer and finer particles in the spinning process. When raw cotton containing “three silk particles” is used for spinning and weaving, the spun yarn and woven cloth are easy to produce defects. During spinning, defects are wrapped in or attached to the sliver, resulting in uneven sliver stem, increased end breakage rate, increased NEP and impurity number of cotton yarn, decreased yarn strength and printing and dyeing effect, reduced yarn and textile quality, and the degradation rate of cotton yarn and cotton cloth still increases.
02
The extra cost of picking “three silk” textile industry has increased greatly, but the effect is not ideal
In order to reduce the reduction of gauze quality caused by “three threads”, cotton spinning enterprises have to organize special personnel to open the cotton bags one by one before cotton feeding, tear them loose one by one, pick them one by one, and clean them at any time in all spinning processes. Therefore, the cost has increased greatly, the picking effect is still not satisfactory, the gauze degradation rate is still rising, and the user’s refund occurs from time to time, which has become a major obstacle to the export of textiles and clothing. It is understood that a medium-sized cotton spinning enterprise employs 300 ~ 400 workers every day and needs to pay personnel wages of up to 2-3 million yuan every year. For example, a cotton textile enterprise pays 0.45 yuan per kilogram for picking lint, and the picking fee per ton is 450 yuan. This alone increases the cost by more than 2.7 million yuan every year. Although the spinning factory has spent a lot of manpower and financial resources, the effect is not ideal. Manual picking of “three filaments” is like looking for a needle in a haystack, and the “three filaments” that are missed still exist.

Is the cotton yarn wrapped with three threads?

01
Understand cotton blending
That is, you should know the origin of cotton because the three silk content of cotton from different origins is different.
Three silk cotton
Australian cotton: machine picking basically eliminates the three silk problems.
American cotton and Brazilian cotton: machine picking, but the situation of wrapping three silk is slightly inferior to Australian cotton.
Xinjiang cotton: it is divided into machine picking and manual picking, that is, some cotton can be wrapped with three silk. Cotton that can be wrapped with three silk is machine-picked cotton of the first agricultural division.

Cotton without three threads
Indian cotton, West African cotton, and Pakistani cotton are all picked manually. Although the spinning is equipped with a different fiber picking device, it fundamentally does not solve the problem of three filaments, so they do not pack three filaments.

02
Understanding yarn
Although some countries and regions also do spinning export, they do not produce cotton and rely on imported cotton. The number of three silk depends on the origin of cotton.
Indonesian yarn: it mainly uses West African cotton and Indian cotton, and does not pack three silk.
Vietnam yarn: American cotton, West African cotton, and Indian cotton are mainly used. When using Vietnam yarn, we should understand the source of cotton.
Taiwan yarn: the cotton matching of rotor spinning is mainly raw cotton, green dust, silk return, noil, and waste materials. Therefore, whether rotor spinning can wrap three wires depends not only on the origin of cotton but also on the waste materials of cotton from that origin. For example, some of the rotors spun yarns produced in Taiwan can be wrapped with three filaments, while others are only less than three filaments but not wrapped.
In addition, the cotton distribution of rotor spinning is mainly raw cotton and leftovers (noil + return), so whether rotor spinning can wrap three filaments depends not only on the origin of cotton but also on the leftovers of cotton from that origin. For example, raw cotton is American cotton in Taiwan. However, due to the different sources of waste materials, some yarns can be wrapped with three filaments, and some yarns only have a few but not wrapped with three filaments.
